2K starts permanent bans as the post-patch meta leans on dunks and blocks
2K27's first permanent ban wave, where the Sep 17 gameplay update still stands, and the builds, breakpoints and Rec/Park/Theater complaints people are arguing about this week.

Official updates
- Official 2K says the first wave of permanent bans for cheating in NBA 2K27 went live on September 24, with more to come. Ronnie2K reshared it the same afternoon. (@NBA2K on X · @Ronnie2K on X)
- Official 2K's patch page still lists the unnumbered September 17 gameplay update as the latest change. It strengthened contests (with a slight boost for wide-open looks), helped standing dunks against weaker interior defenders, made Rise Up matter more at Gold and above, rewarded Steal rating on ball contact, and standardized game speed across modes. (2K patch notes)
- Official The last numbered patch is still v1.5 (September 11), with no gameplay changes. 2K says the patch before Season 2 will carry a much broader set of fixes. (2K patch notes)
What the community is talking about
- Creator/guide The ban wave was creators' biggest topic of the day. SiimplyGrinding and Brotha Jones both posted videos on it September 24, and SiimplyGrinding's had about 47K views when we checked. (SiimplyGrinding (YouTube) · Brotha Jones (YouTube))
- Community - verify LaMonsta says the bans came with a required update. 2K's patch page doesn't list a new update, so this is unconfirmed. (LaMonsta (YouTube) · 2K patch notes)
- Community - verify "Secret patch" talk is back. Brutalsim Da Guru's September 24 video passes on player reports of a rhythm-shooting buff and a possible return of skill-based matchmaking (SBMM). On September 18, LaMonsta said Limitless Range was nerfed and SBMM removed. 2K hasn't confirmed either. (Brutalsim Da Guru (YouTube) · LaMonsta (YouTube))
- Community - verify "Is anyone actually enjoying 2K27 since the update?" was one of this week's busiest r/NBA2k threads. The poster describes inconsistent shot timing and shots graded as contested with no defender close. Replies say close shots and Ghost Stepper got weaker. (r/NBA2k thread)
Build & attribute meta
- Creator/guide The most-watched build videos focus on attacking and protecting the rim: Joe Knows' 99 Block "Agent of Chaos" build (near 205K views), Brotha Jones' 99 Driving Dunk point guard, and SiimplyGrinding's 6'11 stretch big with 99 Block. (Joe Knows · Brotha Jones · SiimplyGrinding)
- Creator/guide LaMonsta's meta point guard pairs 96 Driving Dunk and 92 3PT with 89 Strength for Gold Strong Handles. (LaMonsta (YouTube))
- Community - verify Not everyone is buying in. A heavily discussed r/NBA2k post tells players to stop making 99 Driving Dunk, Strength and Block builds, predicting a Season 2 patch will make them obsolete. That's a prediction, not a patch note. (r/NBA2k post)
Shooting & animation breakpoints
- Community - verify Two widely shared post-patch shooting takes on X: Koza says you can't shoot from deep without Limitless Range anymore and that steal spam is gone. Joey2K says shots from around 28 feet are rough even with the badge, and nearly everything is contested, especially for small guards. (@Koza2k_ · @Joey2KYT)
- Creator/guide NBA2KLab calls the Suggs hop jumper "META level" and posted the best moves for getting open on a 7-footer with 65 Ball Handle. Koza's dribble-moves guide for 80 Ball Handle is near 60K views. (NBA2KLab: hop jumpers · NBA2KLab: 7ft moves · Koza (YouTube))
- Community - verify Breakpoints people are quoting: in an r/NBA2k thread on point guard thresholds, the poster says 85-86 Ball Handle unlocks most meta dribble animations. One reply suggests at least 86 Pass Accuracy and names 86, 89 and 93 as 3PT breakpoints. None of this is verified, so check the animation's requirement in-game before you spend cap breakers. (r/NBA2k thread)
Rec / Park / Theater notes
- Community - verify Koza says steal spam is dead, but steals are still a common complaint. A September 25 r/NBA2k post says steal spam was toned down but is still bad in 3v3, and asks 2K for a penalty that actually stops it. (r/NBA2k post)
- Community - verify Two single reports worth watching: one player says every Rec game on September 24 stopped with a "problem has been encountered" error, and a Switch 2 player says Theater games are almost impossible to find there and Rec is usually empty without crossplay. (Rec error report · Switch 2 post)
